Gioana Lopizzo, a senior at La Costa Canyon High in California, placed second in the Division 3 girls final by covering the 5-kilometer layout in 17:32.0 at Woodward Park in Fresno at the CIF State Cross Country Championships. Lopizzo was also second last season in 17:41.5, helping the Mavericks finish 13th as a team with 314 points.
