Gioana Lopizzo, a senior at La Costa Canyon High in California, captured back-to-back Division 3 girls titles at the CIF San Diego Section Championships by covering the 3-mile layout in 17:29.3 at Balboa Park's Morley Field. Lopizzo, who won last season in 17:12.7, helped the Mavericks finish third overall as a team with 88 points.
